Pomegranate SEEDs® Youth Mentorship after school program is back for 2026-27!

Established by Founder/Director Myra Krien in 2000, Pomegranate SEEDs® is an after-school program for young women (13-18 yrs). The class meets 2 days a week throughout the school year. Participants receive instruction in Pomegranate Improvisational Dance (PID), and use journals and talking circles to discuss a range of issues including self-esteem, body-image, financial independence, and personal goals.

The drum solo is the climax of any belly dancer show. This is a great time for the dancer and drummer to improvise and communicate. In this workshop, you will learn how to build your own solos and use techniques for improvisation. You will also learn what the dancer is expecting from you and how to play something interesting and exciting for them. This workshop is perfect for drummers who know the basics. This workshop is also great for dancers to learn about the drum solo from the drummer's perspective.

Learn a Choreography by Myra to "Haramt Ahebak" (حرمت أحبك). Meaning "I Quit Loving You", this song is a timeless Arabic classic immortalized by the legendary Algerian-Lebanese diva Warda Al-Jazairia. Released in 1993, the song remains one of the most celebrated masterpieces of modern Egyptian music. This dynamic choreography utilizes flowing Raks Sharqui movements, rich storytelling, and dramatic dynamics, playing with the emotional landscape of different traditional Egyptian instrumentation.

We'll learn a joyful choreography that blends the flowing beauty of Raks Sharki with the juicy hips, playful attitude, and irresistible sparkle of American Cabaret. Expect luscious arms, delicious musicality, crisp accents, deep hip work, and plenty of opportunities to become the music! Come ready to laugh, play, challenge yourself, and leave with a dance that's joyful, sassy, and full of Starbelly magic.

European and American music divides an octave into 12 precisely equidistant tones, creating all its music from combinations of those notes. As brilliant and soul shaking as this music can be, it essentially uses only primary colors to make its paintings with. Music from around the Fertile Crescent is much more subtle, using up to 3 times as many notes per octave. In this workshop, we will explore these microtonal colors, why they have thrived despite heavy western influence, and how they affect our body and spirit. A keen musical ear will enhance the experience, but anyone can appreciate the cultural and theoretical aspects of these ancient scales.

Learn spicy dance combinations in a joyful choreography, which are also fully cue-able in an Improvisational  Bellydance format. Your nomadic dance wanderlust feeds on these effusive moves inspired by the cultures along the Romani Trail, celebrating vibrant rhythms, expressive musicality, playful connections, and the rich spirit of shared cultural dance traditions.

Step into the spontaneous world of vocal play with vocalist and composer Beth Quist (Cirque du Soleil, Bobby McFerrin, Sherefe). Grounded in traditions of circle singing, polyrhythmic groove, listening, and somatic awareness, this immersive vocal improvisation workshop offers a supportive, playful space to explore your unique range, timbre, and musical instincts.

This workshop will be a fiery fusion of American Tribal Style mixed with Spanish embellishments. This workshop is designed to ignite a sense of inner fire in your dance. You will learn a combination that can be incorporated into your existing dances or broken down into individual, cueable movements. We'll focus on creating beautiful lines and striking angles as well as working energy through your entire body—all the way to your fingertips. Whether you're looking to expand your movement vocabulary or add more passion and artistry to your dance, this workshop will leave you feeling inspired.

Designed for intermediate and advanced players, this one-hour workshop explores the innovative darbuka technique developed by Misirli Ahmet—commonly known as the Turkish split-hand technique—which David studied directly with him in Turkey. Participants will work with rhythms, patterns, phrasing, speed, clarity, and musicality while learning practical approaches to composing and improvising a compelling darbuka solo.

Join Joel Beall—one of Northern California's Lambada Zouk pioneers—and his wife and dance partner, Ariel, for a fun and welcoming workshop!

Designed for social dancers of all levels, this class will cover Zouk fundamentals for beginners, while also introducing new patterns, techniques, and movement concepts for more experienced Zoukeiros.

After class, stay for a one-hour Practica to practice what you've learned, meet other dancers, and enjoy the dance floor together.
